Additional "admin"-group

At the moment MEDIAL provides the admin-group “HMLadmin”, and members of this group have several rights “normal” users do not have. As we do have a big team providing a lot of videos for a lot of different people, this is handeled with a local account being member of HMLadmin, so videos can be uploaded and moved into personal categories. Problem is, that this automatically gives rights on top this group normally should not have (e.g. performing changes in the MEDIAL system). Therefor it would be really good to have a group which can access ALL categories (including personal categories), but no access for example to add or change a category. Best would be to be able to decide explitly on which components a group has access, and not only “all or nothing”.

Failed Uploads for Personal Category recordings should be automatically imported

Any recording that fails for whatever reason where the category selected was the users personal category should be automatically imported into the user personal category. At the moment these recordings go into the Failed Uploads Screen and have to be manually imported by either the admin or the user themselves which is laborious. The only recordings that should not be automatically imported are ones where users select a non personal category.

Test Recording Feature for MEDIA Lecture

It would be useful for a user to be able to click on a Test Recording button before initiating their actual recording. Once they have completed their short recording (say limited to ten seconds) to verify both their audio and video are working they should be able to play back the recording as a preview and then that recording should be deleted.

Chapter access in moodle and with embedded player

Feature request to get access to the chapters within moodle and when using the embeded code. It should be “decidable” whether the chapters are displayed or not (on/off), so that a video can be provided with chapters in one situation and without in another.

Bug: User Merge

When merging an LTI User account with an LDAP User account, keeping the LDAP account as the ‘Primary user’, in the LtiSiteUser table the moodle account is still connected with the now not existing LTI user. Because the LTI user account is not active anymore the moodle user is asked again if he has an LDAP account, chooses ‘yes’, tries to login, but the moodle user account is not connected with the LDAP account (I think because the moodle user ID is still in the database for that site and MEDIAL does not change the UserId in that case). So, in the merging process, there has to looked if the accounts do have matching entries in the LtiSiteUser table and the merging has to be performed there as well, so changing the UserId from the ‘not primary user’ to the UserId of the ‘primary user’, or the entrie of the ‘not primary user’ has to be deleted, so the moodle UserId is free again for the site so it’s beeing inserted when the login from moodle is performed.

Activity completion on percentage watched.

A feature request that I could see value in for the Moodle-medial integration. Would be the ability to set a minimum engagement on video content being percentage watched before the user can proceed to the next activity, An example of a competitor that has this feature is below: https://www.linkedin.com/posts/ncard_moodle-edtech-onlinelearning-activity-7423477615023370240-V0h3?utm_medium=ios_app&rcm=ACoAABh63cwBBuU5Qp3gRIetTj_2JEzUPG4hYaM&utm_source=social_share_send&utm_campaign=copy_link

Error in Adding a Video

Today I recorded a video sharing my screen. It was 15 minutes long and took some time to process so I walked away to give it time to complete it. When I came back, I had an error message in two bars (one pink and one green) saying that my license was expired. I tried again to view it but got the same message. I deleted the video from the text box, and I opened it up in my existing videos. I selected it and added it again, but still got an error message. I went back to my existing content, and this time I downloaded it to my computer. I then went back into Medial and uploaded it from my computer, and added it to the textbox in Canvas. It finished processing, but will not play. Error code: 232404. I know the video is recorded with no problem because I can play it from my computer. It just won’t allow it to play.

Subfolders or Filtering Videos in Canvas

https://scribehow.com/viewer/Edit_Lecture_1_Rubric_and_Assignment_Settings__7I7lWA6WTQOBK7c6_s212g The above link is a set of screenshots showing what I see when I link a video to an assignment. I would like a way to filter them via tags or subfolders so I can organize/group videos by course or topic. Instead, I must scroll through all of the videos to locate the one I need. The search filter is available but is inconsistent.

Share a Medial video. Select multiple users at the same time.

Pending evaluation of viability.

Per-upload email notification of success/failure of encoding

Per upload, it would be great to have a tickbox option that enabled the sending of an encoding report to the uploader’s email address - either success or failure. With the ability to customise the text on Failure (so that per institution the instructions could be customised). The database flag for whether this has been ticked or not would be useful to be documented, so if a user says they didn’t get an email we can check whether they ticked it or not.

Instructions for Screen Sharing

https://scribehow.com/viewer/How_to_Record_and_Screenshare_in_Medial__h5t0jZkXSeSjf75GVzbkfw I need explicit instructions for sharing my screen and video (both) when recording. My process is that I have my PowerPoint (I’m using a Macbook and Chrome) on my desktop when I open Medial. Then I choose to record “Both” and select “Window” and the slides I want to show. Medial then takes me to the PowerPoint where I see only my slides and not my own picture so I can’t move it to get it out of the way of the text on the slides. Also, because I can’t see anything else except the slide, I’m not sure that it is actually recording until I’ve finished and stop sharing. Are there any detailed instructions that go through the process step-by-step?

Select Medial videos by tag

New feature. As admin. Required for controlled archiving / deletion. As discussed this is a Priority 1 item. It should be delivered very soon aftyer the new version of Medial comes out in December(?). By the end of January? (Bug fixing permitting.) Robert comments that we have a lot of one-time use cases, such as student video assignment submissions. These should be easy to identify and archive anyway. Robert also comments that a new architecture for storage and content delivery is on the rtoad map and will be much more affordable, to some extent mitigating the financial cost of poor deletion/archiving.. Discussed and agreed in the UVic-Medial meeting of 24.10.25
