Per-upload email notification of success/failure of encoding

Per upload, it would be great to have a tickbox option that enabled the sending of an encoding report to the uploader’s email address - either success or failure. With the ability to customise the text on Failure (so that per institution the instructions could be customised). The database flag for whether this has been ticked or not would be useful to be documented, so if a user says they didn’t get an email we can check whether they ticked it or not.

User Crash Reporter

Create a system where the browser can detect a server error/recording error and allow for users to create a crash report that contains relevant data needed. At the moment it is challenging to effectively report one-off crashes as they are difficult to replicate and users do not know to send relevant crash data when currently reporting issues.

Chapter access in moodle and with embedded player

Feature request to get access to the chapters within moodle and when using the embeded code. It should be “decidable” whether the chapters are displayed or not (on/off), so that a video can be provided with chapters in one situation and without in another.

AI generated captions/transcript: auto-generated translation

As a future development project. I would like to request AI-generated captions that can be translated, or perhaps a translated transcript feature. This would be particularly interesting when making films accessible in languages other than English that do not automatically come with SRT files. A feature like this could significantly improve multilingual access to audiovisual content for teaching and research. For an example of the kind of transcript functionality I have in mind, see the TIB AV-Portal: https://av.tib.eu/media/65496

Clear labelling of AI generated captions

I just finished a tour of the new feature for generating AI captions, and I wanted to share a feature request here, as it was recommended to me that I add this suggestion to the group page. I appreciate that this functionality is being added, but I would like the use of AI for captions to be made transparent on the user side. For example, instead of displaying only “EN” for English, the interface could show “EN (AI-generated)” so users can clearly identify when captions were created using AI.

Google Vids Integration

Could you make it so that MP4 videos made using Google Vids that are subsequently exported to Google Drive are ingestible by MEDIAL in the same way you appear to be planning to ingest videos from Google Meet? The videos sit in the “Vids Export” folder which is in the same root directory as the meetings recordings. Ideally you could have a Google integration that allows you to define the name of the folder or folders that you watch for new video uploads.

Adding extra widescreen resolution options for the Encoder

MEDIAL Encoder currently has transcoding options like 1080p , 720p and 480p which can cause sometimes quality issue for 16×10 widescreen recorded videos after upload. It would be good to have 1920x1200 and 1280x800 like resolutions.

Post a recording in the comment box of an assignment?

I have situations where a student asks me a question on their assignment that I could answer easily with a video that I have already made that addresses their question. However, in Canvas, there is no Medial icon to do this in the Comment box of the assignment. This is the box under the rubric in Speedgrader. Is this possible to add?

Google Meet recordings integration for MEDIAL

Activity completion on percentage watched.

A feature request that I could see value in for the Moodle-medial integration. Would be the ability to set a minimum engagement on video content being percentage watched before the user can proceed to the next activity, An example of a competitor that has this feature is below: https://www.linkedin.com/posts/ncard_moodle-edtech-onlinelearning-activity-7423477615023370240-V0h3?utm_medium=ios_app&rcm=ACoAABh63cwBBuU5Qp3gRIetTj_2JEzUPG4hYaM&utm_source=social_share_send&utm_campaign=copy_link

Additional "admin"-group

At the moment MEDIAL provides the admin-group “HMLadmin”, and members of this group have several rights “normal” users do not have. As we do have a big team providing a lot of videos for a lot of different people, this is handeled with a local account being member of HMLadmin, so videos can be uploaded and moved into personal categories. Problem is, that this automatically gives rights on top this group normally should not have (e.g. performing changes in the MEDIAL system). Therefor it would be really good to have a group which can access ALL categories (including personal categories), but no access for example to add or change a category. Best would be to be able to decide explitly on which components a group has access, and not only “all or nothing”.

Embeddable Playlists

It would be great if we could build a playlist of content that could be embedded inside a webpage to play the content.

medial.featurebase.app: more details, please!

We need more detailed feedback on each request. Time frame? We also need to know the status of those who are active on the platform. For example, is Molly Sturman a Medial insider?

Broken link in Analytics list

When I click on the checkmark it seems to want to go to “#!” (whatever that is) but it logs me out of Medial. See the attached screen capture.

Error in Adding a Video

Today I recorded a video sharing my screen. It was 15 minutes long and took some time to process so I walked away to give it time to complete it. When I came back, I had an error message in two bars (one pink and one green) saying that my license was expired. I tried again to view it but got the same message. I deleted the video from the text box, and I opened it up in my existing videos. I selected it and added it again, but still got an error message. I went back to my existing content, and this time I downloaded it to my computer. I then went back into Medial and uploaded it from my computer, and added it to the textbox in Canvas. It finished processing, but will not play. Error code: 232404. I know the video is recorded with no problem because I can play it from my computer. It just won’t allow it to play.

More In Depth Quiz Questions

It would be very helpful to have a way to create questions that allow an image to be embedded within the question type and/or a question type that allows for an equation to be entered, specifically for our math courses.

Bug: User Merge

When merging an LTI User account with an LDAP User account, keeping the LDAP account as the ‘Primary user’, in the LtiSiteUser table the moodle account is still connected with the now not existing LTI user. Because the LTI user account is not active anymore the moodle user is asked again if he has an LDAP account, chooses ‘yes’, tries to login, but the moodle user account is not connected with the LDAP account (I think because the moodle user ID is still in the database for that site and MEDIAL does not change the UserId in that case). So, in the merging process, there has to looked if the accounts do have matching entries in the LtiSiteUser table and the merging has to be performed there as well, so changing the UserId from the ‘not primary user’ to the UserId of the ‘primary user’, or the entrie of the ‘not primary user’ has to be deleted, so the moodle UserId is free again for the site so it’s beeing inserted when the login from moodle is performed.

Bug: Bulk Upload category

With the fix that for a personal category always the id of the contributor is taken, it now does not work to put a video in a non personal category, it is always the personal contributor category a video is uploaded to. It’s on: contributor exists: —> category id from contributor's personal category contributor does not exist: —> category id of randomly selected category Target state: subject = e-mail-address: e-mail-address exists only once (for users with status = 1): —> category id of the user with this e-mail-address e-mail-address exists more than once (for users with status = 1): contributor exists: contributor has this e-mail-address: —> category id from contributor's personal category contributor has a different e-mail-address: —> e-mail-address that is used if an contributor does not exist (must be adaptable) contributor does not exist: —> category id that is used if category does not exist (must be adaptable) subject = non personal category: category name exists: —> category id of this category category name does not exist: —> category id that is used if category does not exist (must be adaptable)

Failed Uploads for Personal Category recordings should be automatically imported

Any recording that fails for whatever reason where the category selected was the users personal category should be automatically imported into the user personal category. At the moment these recordings go into the Failed Uploads Screen and have to be manually imported by either the admin or the user themselves which is laborious. The only recordings that should not be automatically imported are ones where users select a non personal category.

Test Recording Feature for MEDIA Lecture

It would be useful for a user to be able to click on a Test Recording button before initiating their actual recording. Once they have completed their short recording (say limited to ten seconds) to verify both their audio and video are working they should be able to play back the recording as a preview and then that recording should be deleted.
